For those of you in colder climates here's a garden worth looking at
Subsistence Pattern. Mr. H and his wife live in Northern Idaho and have fresh greens from their garden and/or cellar EVERY day! They put in a lot of hard work to make it happen. His blog is chalked full of useful information. He uses home made row hoop houses to preserve vegetables in the ground. Lots of information in the side bars Take a peek and get inspired.
Part of my problem growing a fabulous garden is the wind.
The plants are sandblasted by the wind.
And the moisture is zapped out of the soil by the wind. Not to mention our 112 degrees summer temps in which everything either fails to thrive or dies.
Do you see the metal frame in the above picture? We purchased it with a sun screen shade cloth thinking that would be enough. It helps but it isn't enough. We need a greenhouse to keep the moisture in the soil. The company we got the frame from think they can turn it into a greenhouse with reinforced plastic siding.

They did a fantastic job.
It blows frequently here but more so in the spring which is just around the corner. Time to get inspired.
